Analysis of Chrome Spot Failures
The self-purification ability of chrome solution is relatively strong. There are lead chromate precipitates in the chrome solution itself, which generally do not adhere to the plate surface during the electroplating process due to the rotation of the plate roller. However, if colloidal substances or components that can form colloidal substances with the chrome solution adhere to the plate surface, chrome spots are likely to occur.
Rectification Measures for Chrome Spots
a. After cleaning the plate roller, the degreaser must be rinsed thoroughly. The degreaser is strongly alkaline, and alkaline substances can form colloidal compounds with the chrome solution, which can easily lead to chrome spots or defects in the slow plating speed on the chrome layer.
b. Poor on-site hygiene, dust pollution, or viscous suspended substances in the plating solution.
c. There are alkaline stripping tanks or alkaline degreasing tanks on the production line. The powder from the dried alkaline solution is very light and can float in the air to the cleaned plate surface, which will definitely form chrome spots.
d. The copper sandpaper used for repair is too coarse, creating conditions for chrome spots.
e. Copper shavings are refilled into the mesh points or pressed onto the plate surface by the scraper, forming chrome spots.
f.The application of electro-engraving white oil is uneven, leaving residues after coalescence, resulting in incomplete cleaning. The white oil currently used is water-soluble, and the waxy film left on the surface after polishing has hydrophobic properties. After applying the engraving oil, it easily coalesces into droplets, making it difficult to clean thoroughly after drying.
